Good Afternoon, Freshman Family! And happy Monday!
We hope that you and your loved ones had a safe and healthy
holiday weekend! Last week, we encouraged you to read some ancient Greek tales
of Love, some which ended in triumph, and others in tragedy. No doubt you
noticed that the tale of Pyramus & Thisbe provided the literary bones of
another tear-jerking story we read together this year. Pivoting away from love,
romance, and heartbreak, this week we’re excited to send you a collection of heroic
myths and swashbucking adventures! These four Hero myths feature hallmarks of modern
action movies and adventure games: impossible journeys, legendary weaponry,
divine intervention, betrayal, and the terrifying price of victory. These myths
also provide the introduction to understanding What Makes A Greek Hero – the
collection of character traits and accomplishments that the Greeks valued and
respected as champions of their culture.
(Please note – this collection contains enough work for 2
weeks – 4/13 to 4/24)
