- Bell Ringer: Click on the link below to read the lyrics to the song "Strange Fruit" by Billie Holiday. Explain, in your class work journal, what the song is about and what the song has to do with To Kill a Mockingbird. Strange Fruit Lyrics
- Class Work: Complete the TKAM Skin Journal
- First of all,’ he said, ‘if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...until you climb into his skin and walk around in it’” (Lee 30).
- Today I want you to climb into the skin of one of the novel’s characters (metaphorically, of course). Pick any character that we have met so far in the book and write a creative journal from his or her point of view. You can pick a scenario that happens in the novel and re-tell it from someone else’s point of view. Or, you can make up a fictional diary entry for a character. For example, you might want to tell us about the first day Dill comes to Maycomb from his point of view, or you might want to write in Boo Radley’s diary Remember, this is creative...so use descriptive, showing language and write in the character’s voice The journal needs to be about 1-3 pages in length.
- Homework:
- Read chapters 6-7 and take active reading notes for each chapter.
Class Information for students and parents
- The next post on my web page will include a link to all of the reading assignments for the rest of the quarter.
- Please make sure you are keeping up with all readings and all active reading notes. Students have to take notes every time they read.
- I will begin administering pop quizzes over the TKAM readings. Pop quizzes will cover background notes and the readings assigned from chapter 1 through any reading assigned from the night before. Students should use their active reading notes to prepare for quizzes.
- PARENTS - students are receiving feedback daily on their work. This quarter I decided to only post summative assessments in GradeSpeed. Students are given formative assessments on a regular, almost daily, basis. Please check their journals and returned work to keep track of how they are doing. I have been sending emails and having students make phone calls anytime they come to class without work or with incomplete work. Please make sure the information you have on file with the PTSA's Evrits system is correct. I send all emails through Evrits. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
- If changes are made to the reading calendar they will be announced in class and updated on this webpage.
